BRIT's

Below are pictures of us at the restaurant BRIT. The actual name of this restaurant is unknown but some American teacher before us ate there and decided that it was the best restaurant in Taiwan and therefore named it BRIT.

Since we've been here, we've had to learn the names and locations of all the little restaurants and stores that provide us with most of the conveniences we need to survive here. For example, there's the 24 Hour store, the yellow store, and BRIT's. However, when I asked some of my students about the 24 Hour store, they just looked at me blankly. I soon found out that none of these names are the actual names of businesses. The truth is, we are unable to read the signs that adorn the buildings here and don't have the energy and brain power to memorize words that we can't associate to English, much less learn how to pronounce. So we make up our own names.

It's interesting to think about the generations of teachers who have come and gone before us and left their mark by creating their own name for a restaurant or store. It makes me want to discover my own little business establishment to name and pass on to future generations of teachers. Maybe I'll name it "Sara's Favorite Store" and it will forever be known as a landmark that teachers will love and refer to for years and years to come. Hmmmm.

By the way, the food was AWESOME!
